Review of AMC Dine-In Prairie Fire 17 Theater
Location: Overland Park, KS
Date of Visit: September 26, 2024
Movie Seen: Megalopolis
Price: $32.01 for one person
$15.51 for one ticket for a weekday evening showing in their GXL Theater. Like a version of IMAX with a single projection. It’s a massive screen with wide rows and large-capacity seating.
A regular popcorn and soda at all AMCs is $16.50.
Cleanliness: The Theater is very cool, and very clean. It looks way ahead of its time than any other theater in the KC area, at least the AMCs. Walking through the hall to the theaters is like walking through a time machine to the future. The Theaters are also super clean.
Comfy-Ness: The GXL seats are straight up in the back, they're cushioned. However, in a long film, your body will begin to become uncomfortable. Megalopolis is almost 150 minutes. By the end, my back was starting to hurt.
Also, I watched The Color Purple in January of 2024, in that theater, the wall in front of the seats of the row I was in was tall enough that it cut off the bottom of the screen. If you’re watching a foreign language film in that theater you’d struggle to read the subtitles.
GXL Theater.
Food Quality: The popcorn was the best I have had thus far into this project. They also have the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines.
Overall 14/20.
Maybe the score is a bit harsh because everything else about this theater is excellent. But the wall cutting off the screen is a huge knock. How do you have such a bad design? This was not always an AMC so they cannot be at full fault.
If it was not for those walls, this Theater would rank very high.
Theater for The Color Purple mentioned above.
