Review of Screenland Armour Theatre
Location: North Kansas City, MO
Date of Visit: September 2, 2024
Movie Seen: Caligula: The Ultimate Cut
Price: $30.50 for one person
One ticket for a Monday afternoon showing is $16.50.
A large popcorn and soda is $14.
Cleanliness: The theater and lobby are clean. You can tell the building is very old but they’ve done great renovations. The bathrooms are clean, the one downside it one bathroom and it is small. But I’ve never run into an issue there.
Comfy-Ness: The seats are comfy and don't recline but they lean back naturally and are cushioned. Their large theater has couches and some reclining seats in the front of the theater.
Food Quality: Popcorn is better than in other theaters, not better than good AMC popcorn. No Freestyle Coca-Cola machine, just a regular soda fountain with minimal choices. The soda is good quality though.
They also have real food. Pizza, sandwiches. Since my showing was at noon I got lunch there. I got the Jon Hamm and Cheese with Kettle Chips and it was very good, and tasted real, unlike the sliders at AMC. Good quality food if you want to eat real food.
You can also get alcoholic drinks, with a sizeable menu for a smaller theater.
The aforementioned Jon Hamm and Cheese.
Overall 18/20.
Much like Glenwood Arts, this theater is special for the special screenings they do. They show new movies as well as rereleases. They do director series’ and Backyard Movie nights in the summer. Projecting a movie on the back of their theater outside.
For cinephiles, this is the theater in Kansas City. If I lived closer to this theater it’s probably the only one, I would go to. They don’t have as many selections as a large chain because they only have four theaters.
However, the special showings, rereleases, foreign language films, arthouse films, and film festivals they do throughout the year make this theater a cut above most. For instance, the movie I saw for this entry was a special showing that most other theaters did not carry.
In addition, if you do go here, you can get the best burger in Kansas City before or after your movie at Tay’s Burger Shack.
